For those of you who did not get casted, I mean it with all honesty when I say you are all really good actors and I’m sorry the teachers could not fit all 50 of us into speaking roles. I hope you will still be involved in FoA in every way you can.
For those of you who have decided to place IB above Drama, you should be ashamed. Kidding. A bit.
NOTE:
Mr Connor would like a first rehearsal at 10am on Labour Day for the first scene; This would involve Boon Hwee, Raja, Amil, Jeremy, Abraham, Ian, Anton, Danson, Jecolia.
Actual rehearsals will commence in Week 7.

Basically Wednesday’s session will revolve around readings of the 3 plays, for the whole club to listen to. The readers will be seated and are not required to do any movement as such. However, the reading should sound dramatic, with readers really in character. (However, this doesn’t mean that any casting decisions need to be made this early.) It’s very important that group members are holding their own individual scripts and do not have to share them, which will be very messy. One (or more if appropriate) member(s) of the group should function as reader(s) of stage directions and bits that are not dialogue in order to help the listeners grasp the storyline. There’s no need to print scripts for everyone, but it should be easy to follow each play based on the quality of the reading. We’ll allow 20 minutes preparation time at the start of the session for groups to settle last minute matters, but it would be better to decide who’s reading what before Wednesday.
It may be necessary for individuals to read more than one role. In this case figure out a way to make clear to the listeners which characters we are listening to at any given point. At the end of the reading the group need to do a summary for the listeners. Clarify any aspects of the storyline that may not have communicated themselves clearly. If your group has already made cuts to the script then you can omit all the material you intend to edit out – but in your final summary explain what has been left out. The summary should also include your basic ideas for staging. Other groups will be able to contribute ideas based on what they have heard. Essentially this exercise is collaborative rather than competitive. Try to complete your reading in 30 minutes or under.

Audition for Festival of Arts, Drama Presentation.
For your audition select 2 of the following & be ready to present a 1 minute (no longer) portrayal of the broad stereotype for each one. You can simply improvise it on the day or script it for yourself. Try and incorporate some sense of the character moving around in your portrayal. If you like you could do it as ‘half a duologue’, something we’ve done in the drama training sessions where you imagine your character talking to someone else, but we only hear your character’s half of what is going on (like they’re reacting to someone invisible.)
Ladies please choose form the Female stereotypes, gentlemen from the Male.
Female:
- Traditional middle-aged lady, both wife & mother.
- Traditional young lady .Modest & gentle, but intelligent & able to be outspoken if necessary.
- Modern lady. A nagging wife. Always complaining.
Male:
- Traditional oldish man. Head of family. Commanding but basically gentle.
- Traditional young man. A magistrate, but capable of being romantic.
Modern man. An artist. Can be sarcastic.
- Downtrodden convict. Very humble and simple – and a bit stupid.
- All the characters (except the convict) are capable of being witty and show a shrewd intelligence.

Each voting slip will contain 6 positions, namely, President, Vice president, Secretary, Treasurer, Welfare Manager and Logistics Manager. Each member will select his/her ideal EXCO – with all 6 positions filled up, without any repetitions. Members are allowed to vote for themselves but have to account for their votes by writing their names on the slips
3. The 6 members with the highest number of votes will be elected</>
4. To determine the various positions, we will look at the positions these 6 have been voted for. The most popular position for each candidate, as indicated by the votes will be the post each of them hold. The teachers and the EXCO will use their discretion to decide the suitability, and hence, the holder of the position.
