The first drama workshop after Festival of Arts was interesting and as usual, full of laughs. We explored injecting a dose of realism into our acting, picturing the surroundings that were described to us by Mr. Connor as vividly as possible. One moment we were skating on ice, the other we were lying on a beach.
We were told to imagine ourselves being confronted by a spirit in a dense jungle, alone. When the spirit “appeared”, I remember Christabel’s highly convincing scream, which sounded as if she had just stepped on a dead lizard. It was honestly one of the best screams I have ever heard.
Following that, we were told to gather in a circle. The activity was meant to teach us how to control our voices, be it projecting or whispering. We had to say “Boo” to the person on our right and “Ta-da!” to the person on our left. The activity ended in peels of laughter as Chun Wui mixed up left and right, confused as we were passing the “Boos” and “Ta-das” at full speed.
We were split into two groups for last activity. The setting of the skit was in a lift and thus, we had to be conscious of the limited area that we had to work in. We were stunned when Joshua Cao walked into the room wearing Cielo’s skirt. That was definitely the highlight of the entire workshop.
Roles (first group)
Roles (second group)
The skits unfolded nicely and we were thoroughly entertained. I believe who have also learnt more about each other’s strengths and weaknesses and this will definitely help us all improve our craft as a club. Although the turn out was lesser than expected, the people who were present each contributed to making the workshop a memorable one.
The best is yet to be.
